iPod naNOT SOON ENOUGH!

Last Sunday, my son and I made the big decision to each purchase an iPod nano, the latest addition to the iPod line. The nano has the storage capacity of the iPod mini, yet it is astonishingly light and compact. It measures a mere 3.5 x 1.6 x .27 inches and weighs only 1.5 ounces. In addition, it boasts an awesome 14 hours of battery life. We had the occasion to drool over them at the Apple Store on Sunday and immediately began to plot and scheme ways of acquiring one for ourselves. At one point, we left the store and sat at a nearby bench in an effort to clear our heads and attempt to rationalize the purchase without the nano staring us in the face, calling our names.

We brainstormed ways to cut back on expenses in order to afford this “necessity.” For instance, our half completed collections of Disney figures featured in
McDonald’s Happy Meals suddenly became a wasteful use of monetary resources and we were sickened by the very thought of them. Other budgeting measures include the drastic reduction of money spent on Christmas gifts, as well as the immediate cancellation of our regular Thursday afternoon trips to the movies.

The urgency we felt in acquiring this new toy was mainly due to our upcoming trip to
Walt Disney World the first week of October. The 7-1/2 hours spent traveling to Orlando would be exceedingly more interesting with an iPod nano to keep us company. The 14 hour battery life would be more than sufficient to get us through the flight. The decision was made.

Unfortunately, after returning to the store we discovered that they were out of the 4GB nanos and only had the 2GB’s in stock. Disappointed, we immediately left the store and headed for the car, foregoing our usual stop at the Disney Store.

Once home, I checked amazon.com only to discover they weren’t shipping the nano until the middle of November. My son did some checking and found that apple.com was still shipping within 1-3 business days, and he was able to score us a discount that was available to employees of his company. Now the only thing left to do is wait. We expect it to arrive sometime during the middle of next week. That’s not soon enough!
